Few things one can keep in mind while theybuy Italian Wine
The one thing one should know when it comes to Italian wine is knowing how to read the label on the bottle. There are four categories of Italian wine;
• Vino da Tavola (VdT); This type of wine isn’t restricted to any Italian area. It’s considered to be weaker as compared to other types.
• IndicazioneGeografica (IGT); It isn’t necessarily restricted to be produced elsewhere, but its production happens in one specific area.
• Denominazione di OrigineControllata (DOC); These types of wines are highly restricted and controlled over which geographical area they’d be grown in.
• Denominazione di OrigineControllata e Garantita (DOCG); These wines are under strict control of the government. They have particular quantities allowed to be produced and are tasted by officials before these are packed in the bottles.
• Classico; It explains the typical area where the wine was produced.
• Superiore; It is used to explain that it’s a high-quality wine from a special region. It’s used as a suffix, with the prefix being the region name.
One may wonder why it is important to know these because the same wine produced in two different areas may differ slightly in taste, and a wine expert could point it out. Knowing where the wine grew will allow one to know more about which organic wine would be better than the other.
